About the Maker

Meet the maker/owner  behind Erickson Bit and Spur- Amy Erickson

Growing up on my family’s ranch, I developed a deep love for the Western way of life, ranching, and horses—an appreciation that ultimately led me to pursue Western engraving and silversmithing.

I have been engraving and silversmithing since 2013 and added bit and spur making to my skill set in 2020. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to study with and participate in fellowships under the guidance of Master Western engravers, gun engravers, and bit and spur makers. These experiences have played an important role in developing my skills, and I continue to pursue opportunities to learn and refine my craft.

In 2020, I was the recipient of the Art of the Cowgirl Bit-Making Fellowship, where I studied under John Mincer of Mincer Silversmiths. In 2022, I was awarded a Wyoming Arts Council Folk Arts Mentorship Grant, studying spur making with Ernie Marsh  (who originally taught me how to engrave). In 2024, I was selected for the American Craft Council’s Emerging Artist Cohort and was also awarded the Traditional Cowboy Arts Association (TCAA) Fellowship. In 2026, I was honored to receive Best Metal Artist at the Western Design Conference in Bozeman, Montana, with my pair of traditional California-style spurs.

I live in southwestern Wyoming, where I operate my business, Erickson Bit and Spur, full-time. I create traditional Western-style engraved jewelry, buckles, saddle silver, bits, and spurs. As a one-woman shop, I take great pride in personally making every piece from start to finish. I work primarily in steel and sterling silver, combining hand fabrication with traditional engraving techniques to create functional, heirloom-quality pieces meant to be used, worn, and treasured for generations.

I also teach beginning engraving and basic silversmithing at my shop and conduct a limited number of workshops throughout the year.

When I’m not in the shop, you can usually find me in the mountains or on the back of a horse—usually both.
